spring 2017 preview
Though there will be many new faces around the Kean
University men’s lacrosse program this spring, 14-year head
coach Shelley Sheiner anticipates continuing the program’s
run of success in 2017.
“With the graduation of 16 seniors from last year’s team,
many would think we are rebuilding,” said Sheiner. “I think
we are fully reloaded and ready to compete for a conference
championship”. Last year’s team outscored its opponents
190-52, and boasted seven all-conference selections.
The 2016 team was the 11th in a row to earn both a postsea-
son appearance and a winning record for the men’s lacrosse
program. Sheiner believes that seniors Matt Brodley, Lucas
Kiernan, and Tyler Randolph are ready to lead the team.
Transfer students James Stavrakis and Tyler Roberto have
the ability to make an immediate impact, and freshmen
Mike Dobrowolski, Cole Blackley, Jack Bushey, and Ray Ams-
den will be competing for playing time right away when the
season kicks off on February 25.

The Kean University women’s lacrosse team will look to
build on its string of dominant performances and narrow
losses last season as head coach Jordan Trautman enters
her fifth year on the sidelines in 2017.
“(We’re looking) to explode into the 2017 season with a
highly skilled veteran unit and an extraordinary group of
freshman,” said Trautman. “Having lost only two starters
from the 2016 season, Kean women’s lacrosse hopes build
on the lessons of last season and blaze a path of new suc-
cesses in 2017.”
Last year’s group started the year 11-1 and won eight dif-
ferent games by 10 or more goals. Also included in last sea-
son’s results were two narrow losses to NJAC rivals Mont-
clair State University and Rowan University - both perennial
powers on the national level. The Cougars will be looking
to flip those results into wins and reach unprecedented
heights for the program in 2017.
