Former Cougar andWomen’s Field Hockey player, Marissa Robinson,
has been selected as one of the top 30 finalists for the NCAAWoman
of the Year award.
A record 517 school nominees were submitted this year and only
30 women were selected from that pool – 10 from each of the three
NCAA divisions – representing 13 sports and a host of undergradu-
ate majors.
The top 30 honorees have demonstrated excellence in academics,
athletics, community service and leadership.
“This year’s top 30 honorees have achieved remarkable things dur-
ing their time in college,” said Sarah Hebberd, chair of the Woman
of the Year selection committee and director of compliance at the
University of Georgia. “They are model student-athletes for genera-
tions of young women to come, and we are immeasurably proud of
their accomplishments.”
Robinson is currently serving a 12-month internship in the NCAA
national office in Indianapolis, where she is focusing on leadership
development. She graduated in May 2016 with 3.961 grade point
average as a Special Education and Psychology major.
The four-year field hockey standout was a representative on the
NCAA Division III SAAC Committee, NJAC SAAC Co-President, Kean
SAAC Co-President, and Kean Leadership Council. She was selected
as a four-year member of the NFHCA National Academic Squad
and Scholar of Distinction Squad, and was inducted into Chi Alpha
Sigma and Psi Chi honor societies. She was named a CoSIDA Aca-
demic All-American, and was also tabbed the Kean Woman of the
Year (NJAIAW) and the Kean Female D’Angola AwardWinner.
As a senior in 2015, Robinson was Third-Team Longstreth/NFHCA
All-American, First Team Longstreth/NFHCA South Atlantic All-Re-
gion, NJAC Midfielder of the Year, First Team NJAC, First Team ECAC,
and selected to play in the National Field Hockey Coaches Associa-
tion Division III Senior Game.
The NCAA Committee on Women’s Athletics announced the 2016
Woman of the Year at a ceremony in Indianapolis on October 16.
