Fresh Faces
September is always a month of fresh starts for university students and
faculty. And as the fall 2016 semester began, thirty-nine new full-time
faculty received a professional “fresh start” at Kean USA, while another
41 new full-time faculty launched the academic year at Wenzhou-Kean
University in support of Kean University’s growing partnership in China.
Faculty have been added to new programs such as physical therapy,
and still-in-development programs like physician assistant studies, as
well as Kean’s well-established already existing programs - theatre,
design, architecture, education, criminal justice, business, humanities,
and sciences.
The newcomers are excited about the work ahead, with many of them
especially motivated by Kean’s diverse student population.
“I like that Kean has a diverse mix of students and that the school really
supports its students,” said Denise Rizzolo, who joins the Department
of Physician Assistant Studies. “It gives them a great foundation to learn
and grow from, as they take their skills out into the world.”
Maria Shumskaya joins the Biology Department after having lived,
studied, and worked around the world. Shumskaya says that Kean is a
“totally different environment” from anything that she has seen.
“Kean is the most welcoming place,” she said. “I would like to start
offering authentic research for undergrad students starting in the first
and second years of school, and my ideas were very welcomed here.”
Each new faculty member brings energy and possibility to Kean’s world-
class education.
